An area of memory that is used for temporary storage of data. The Clipboard is often being used without you realising it. For example, if you select some text in a word processor then cut it using the Edit/Cut menu option, the text is temporarily stored in the Clipboard. If you choose the Edit/Paste menu option you can copy the text back from the Clipboard to the document. In Windows, the Clipboard can store any type of data, from text to sound, and drawings. It's a very useful way of moving small chunks of data from one program to another. To see what is currently stored in the Clipboard, you can start a utility called Clipboard Viewer which is in the Accessories group in Windows.
